back in sydney (english version)
5 januari 2016 - Sydney, Australië
Hello again!!
It is been a while since I have updated so time for an update.
I've been sitting in Australia for almost 3 months now and I am now back to where it all began - Sydney!!!
Since my last update, I have traveled to Bundaberg where I spent a week looking for work but without any luck. Although I did not find any, I actually had a very nice time spent with some very nice people.
After Bundaberg I traveled to Brisbane to look around there but after two days in Brisbane I decided, since Christmas was just around the corner (3.5 weeks), that I would not stay in Brisbane yet but again would travel further and go back to Sydney.
However before I left Brisbane, I spent some time seeing the city and with some friends who I met along the way. It was nice to see them again spend some time together and share stories about what everyone had done so far.
After 3/4 days in Brisbane, I went back to where the adventure began nearly three months ago ... Sydney.
I got really lucky when I got here again (not). It was 35 degrees and there was a festival on the weekend so all hostels were fully booked.
After four hours of wandering around with my backpack and all my stuff in Sydney and after calling about 25 hostels I finally found one
Exhausted, I arrived in my room (6 person room full of girls) and had a conversation with one of the girls who asked me the usual questions: who are you, where are you from, what have you seen and done, and what do you want to do? I told her I had come back to Sydney to find some work so that I can travel a bit later on.
She told me that she worked at a fundraising call centre here in Sydney and that she would ask her manager if they are still looking for new people. He asked on Thursday if I could send in my CV and by Friday he called me to see if could come in on Monday for an interview. I got the job and by Tuesday I started!!!! Finally a little structure and income, which is quite a relief after all these expenses. (oops, haha)
After having worked for about 3.5 weeks it was almost Christmas time and that meant moving again. I had agreed with one of the girls who I got to know at the beginning of my journey (at Schiphol) to meet up again for Christmas and New Years.
We decided to celebrate at Bondi Beach!!! And what a good time we had over there. Luckily for us, the weather was really good (in contrast to the last 10 years) and we spent Christmas Day on the beach and celebrated with a delicious Christmas lunch/dinner with everyone from our hostel in Bondi!! After Christmas, we got in contact with 2 American girls, 2 Dutch boys and 1 Dutch girl who we celebrated New Year's Eve with.
Our first plan was to spend New Year's Day/Eve in Sydney but when we heard that it many places required us to buy a ticket, whereas other places were free. However the free places included standing with thousands of other people in a confined space. We decided after a tip from someone in the hostel to change that and celebrate in Rosebay instead. What a good choice that was! We were allowed to bring alcohol in. We had our towels on display where we could sit at a wonderfully relaxed spot, we could enjoy a swim in the nice weather and we had a very relaxed evening with a good view of the fireworks. I must say it was pretty special to experience this and the fireworks were nice to see. Even though it was all under perfect conditions, I still felt a bit down. We had fun, but I missed my boyfriend, family and friends from home.
While it was nice to see New Years like this for once, I also just wanted to have a moment like that at home,
Luckily I was not the only one who thought this way and soon someone made a joke and everyone went back to partying again after that.
My parents had just sent me a package with all Dutch breakfast delicacies and we had it on New Year's Day with the 5 Dutchies (and Americans and the manager of the hostel who I also knew would want some!). We held a Dutch breakfast just after 10am and after a short night we celebrated Dutch new years eve, with stars of course, poppers and phone calls back to my loved ones at home!
January 2nd, I went back to my 'old' hostel in Sydney and ordinary life started again. Yesterday was the first working day of the new year already and it's time to take a break from all the parties. But only until the next party shows up again, of course.
I hope you all had a good Christmas and New Years and that all goes well. I'll keep you informed again soon
Big kiss
